This week we are heading to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Damon has a work conference there, and Avery and I are tagging along. Steamboat Springs holds a special place in my heart, so returning is very nostalgic.
Memorable experiences in Steamboat Springs
Damon and I got engaged on a ski trip to Steamboat Springs (although he actually proposed in Denver because he couldn’t wait until we made it to Steamboat). It is also the first place I ever skied with my brother. We now try to make that a yearly thing. I don’t get to see my brother very often since he lives two time zones away, so I look forward to that annual ski trip all year long.
Our 11-month-old’s first ski trip
Now this wonderful little ski town will be the setting of another great first… Our daughter’s first ski trip. Granted, she isn’t even one year old yet, so she won’t be skiing per say, but we will be sure to make some special memories with her while we are there.
Skiing is a big part of our lives. It’s my husband’s passion. Although I like to ski, I’ll admit I’m not as zealous (or good) as Damon.
I love to ski when the sun is out and it’s 32 degrees. That my friends, is a good day on the mountain. But when it’s cloudy, windy, dumping snow, or below zero, I’m not a big fan. I love the physical act of skiing but I loath being cold. And no, dressing in layers does not keep you warm. It might keep you warmER… But no matter how many layers you have on, when you are on that chair lift and it stops for 10 minutes leaving you suspended in the frigid air, it is damn cold.
But, I’m married to a zealot… A ski zealot. So skiing will always be a big part of our lives.
Avery will grow up skiing. She will probably learn to ski at the age of 3 or 4. I didn’t learn until I was 29, so she will probably ski circles around me by the time she is 6.
So I’m excited to take her to Steamboat and introduce her to the ski life. Steamboat is one of my favorite mountains, and perhaps it will be one of hers someday, as well. Even if she is still too young to strap planks on her feet and snow plow down a bunny hill, she isn’t too young to start making memories. It won’t be long until she is on the magic carpet along with all the other little kids in ski school, and Damon and I will be right there proudly watching our little girl become a skier.
