At the end of 2012, we told ourselves that it was the best year ever. We had just gotten married, and had big plans. At the end of 2013,we told ourselves it was our best year ever. Together, we traveled to Europe for the first time and marveled at the beauty of Switzerland and Italy. At the end of 2014, we told ourselves that it was the best year ever. We were pregnant with our first child, and we still managed to sneak away to Ireland, Scotland, England, France and the Dominican Republic. Then at the end of 2015, we said it was our best year ever! Avery was born and among the chaos and sleep deprivation of having a newborn, we still managed to fit in trips to Costa Rica and Canada. And now here we are, at the end of 2016 and yep…it’s been our best year ever! Avery is growing so fast and we’re still traveling to far away places. In fact, in 2016, we visited eight countries and five states with our toddler.

2016 Recap

You see, your life is what you want it to be. And we did it against a society that told us that our “traveling days were over” once we had a child.

In the last 22 months we have been able to take our daughter to Canada twice, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, and to 11 states in the USA.

You can certainly tell that we’ve taken full advantage of the “Kids Under 2 Fly Free” program.

We know she won’t really remember it. Although hopefully the 20 gigs of pictures we’ve taken will tell “Future Avery” where she’s been and how she enjoyed it so.

Traveling is what we do. We aren’t ourselves if we’re not doing what we like to do. And if you are not yourself with your family then who can you be yourself with? We were determined not to lose ourselves when we became parents. So now, traveling has ultimately become a part of who Avery is, as well.Parenthood and Passports - Flying with a toddler

So 2016 has come to end. It’s been a blast seeing the world. And 2017 will be no different. We’ll fly to the mountains and across the ocean. We’ll continue to be ourselves because it’s what we like to do. Expect more pictures to be taken and more memories to be made.

Here’s to booking flights, renting cars, living out of a suitcase, making new friends, and learning native languages.

Cheers!
