Austria is one of the most naturally beautiful countries we’ve ever visited. This mountainous European country is breathtaking. It borders Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. For this reason, Austria can easily be included in a multi-country family trip.
We only visited the northern region of Austria that extends from Salzburg to Vienna. Innsbruck and the western region are still on the list of places we would like to see. With only so many paid days off in a year, we couldn’t fit it all into our itinerary. But the parts of Austria we did see were incredible. We visited in August, and the weather was perfect. It was warm, but not hot, and the grass was a vibrant shade of green.
Visiting Austria with a baby or toddler
Austria is very family friendly. It’s one of the safest countries in the world, and there is a lot to do with or without children. From beautiful lakes, to museums, gardens, parks, and palaces, children of all ages will love Austria. While Vienna was a particular highlight of our trip, the small villages like Mondsee, and Fuschl am see are definitely worth visiting. They’re not only beautiful, but they have a level of charm that is lost in larger cities. If you enjoy history, Vienna is packed with it! If nature is more your thing, you will never want to leave Salzburg and the area surrounding it.
Here are a few highlights and recommendations for those considering traveling to Austria with a baby or toddler.
