Family-friendly lodging in Banff National Park
There are some wonderful options for family-friendly lodging in Banff National Park.
Fairmont Banff Springs – Banff
If you are planning to stay in Banff, the Fairmont Banff Springs offers the finest luxury and unmatched service. It is a bit of a splurge, but I’d highly recommend it. It makes a perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. The hotel itself is more than 125 years old, and resembles a castle perched up on a mountainside.
The rooms are nice and well-furnished, but the on-property amenities are what make this hotel a five-star experience. The restaurants, spa, and indoor-outdoor heated pool are just some of the amazing features of this hotel that will leave you feeling like a celebrity.
The hotel is in walkable distance to the charming town of Banff. It is approximately a 15 minute stroll, and there is always the possibility you may see wildlife grazing along the way.
Staying in Banff, as opposed to Lake Louise, offers you the convenience of having nearby shopping and a variety of restaurants. There are hot springs and plenty of hiking trails nearby, however, Banff is about a 30-45 minute drive away from the Lake Louise ski resort or the widely popular lakes, Lake Moraine and Lake Louise.

The Post Hotel and Spa – Lake Louise
In the town of Lake Louise, we stayed at The Post Hotel and Spa although there is a Fairmont property right on the lake. We had an amazing stay with our little one. The Post Hotel offers great views of the mountains and is surrounded by nature. I would say as far as family-friendly lodging in Banff National Park goes, this hotel is one of the best!
The hotel offers traditional hotel rooms as well as private cabins for families or larger parties. The rooms are nice and the bedding is very comfortable. Small touches, like turn down service with a complimentary gourmet chocolate left on each pillow, make staying at The Post Hotel a sweet treat. The hotel grounds are charming and rustic. A babbling creek runs right next to the property, making for quite a picturesque setting. There are also train tracks that run in front of the hotel, but the trains do not blow their horns, so while you do hear them throughout the day and night, it is actually a peaceful rumble, that I found quite relaxing.
We were traveling with an infant, and the entire staff, particularly those in the restaurant, were very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. It tops my list for family-friendly lodging in Banff National Park. But it isn’t just for families with children. This would be a great option for couples looking for a romantic getaway, as well.
The town of Lake Louise is much smaller than Banff and does not offer the same shopping and dining options. However it is much closer to the mountain resort as well as Lake Moraine and Lake Louise, both popular tourist attractions with some great, easy hiking trails.
